Media Alert: Committee to Receive Progress Report on Rebuilding of Parliament Project

6 November 2025

Parliament, Thursday, 6 November 2025 – The Joint Standing Committee on the Financial Management of Parliament (JSCFMP) will receive a comprehensive progress report on the rebuilding of infrastructure destroyed in the 2022 fire this evening.

This follows the committee’s first site visit in the Seventh Parliament to the Rebuilding Project yesterday.

Following the January 2022 fire, which destroyed the National and Old Assembly buildings, it was agreed that the JSCFMP, which has oversight of Parliament’s financial management, would also oversee the rebuilding project, as well as the interim arrangements for constructing alternative office, committee meeting and plenary spaces. The committee plays an oversight role in terms of provisions of the Financial Management of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act. In several engagements with the committee, Members asked for assurance that work on the National Assembly and the Old Assembly will be completed within the approved budget. This prompted the site visit and the progress briefing.

DETAILS OF THE PROGRAMME:
Date: Thursday, 6 November
Time: 17:30 (following plenaries)
Venue: Virtual Platform
